Footnotes:
1. There is supposedly a curse on the line that every fourth generation one of the sons of the line will be evil and desire women whether they want him or not.
2. Paril of Paltendale, founder of Erondale, may be a younger son of Parsen since Silver May Tarnish says "He kept the badge of Paltendale, being a son of the House." p.23
3. Third son to the lord of Paltendale who raped Meive's ancestor.
4. Given that Lady Tephana is supposed to have married her cousin, her father or mother must be related to the Paltendale side as well.
5. In The Crystal Gryphon she is mentioned as widowed (p 25). In Heir Apparent it is mentioned that her first husband was her cousin and was heir to the House of Fortal even though Fortal is the name of her father in The Crystal Gryphon (p 26). Her husband, however, has brothers who want to rule instead (p 27). It is mentioned that both of Lady Tephana's parents died in a plague shortly after her birth.
6. Since Heir Apparent mentioned "brothers", Lord Hogar can't be the only one - and is certainly not the eldest (since Lady Temphana's husband was heir). This actually fits in pretty well, since each generation tends to have three sons. It does raise the question of why Hlymer is not heir, though, since Dales tradition usually has it where the first son of the father inherits a given Dale. The third son being youngest makes sense - Hogar would inherit the Dale after his older brother died so Rogear would naturally be interested in marrying elsewhere.
7. Why Hlymer is not heir of Paltendale is never addressed. Since Dales tradition usually has it where the first son of the father inherits a given Dale there has to be something odd going on that the brothers are able to challenge Hlymer's inheritance or somehow force Lady Tephana out.
8. In The Crystal Gryphon it is mentioned Hogeth has a pregnant wife who would be better off without him.
9. Rogear is "cousin-kin" to Kerovan p.16 The Crystal Gryphon. He's from the Lady Tephana's side of the family (knowing and having Power). Since he's not Hogar's son he must be the son of the other brother.
