Character Ages

Given the constancy problems, the chart below lists how old some of the characters ought to be in a given year. In some cases, like Gillan, Elys, and Jervon, this is a best guess based on text in the books. In the case of Kasarian two different ages age given due to the irreconcilable statements that he was five when the war began in the Dales and twenty-two when the Turning occurred. This is irreconcilable because he would then be only a year older than Kyllan, Kemoc, and Kaththea. Since Web of the Witch World mentions that Simon had been in love with Jaelithe half a year or less at the time of the events the Triplets were not likely even conceived, much less born. Since the Kolder Gate was closed in Web of the Witch World it could not have happened much sooner than the end of the Year of the Fire Troll or early in the Year of the Leopard, since the Year of the Leopard is mentioned in The Crystal Gryphon as being the year that the first victories against Alizon were being made, as well as the fact that the supplies of Kolder weapons seemed limited. The Kolder nest was also wiped out during the events of Web of the Witch World making it unlikely that any shattered fragments of Kolder would risk the wrath of the Alizonder barons if their scheme should fail.

Footnotes:
1. There is no way to even hazard a guess as to Jaelithe's age, but since she and Simon are the parents of the next generation, she is included on this table with the estimate that she and Simon are probably around the same age.
2. Simon is older than 25. He enlisted on March 10, 1939 (presumably at 18) and rose in rank fairly quickly. He served in the Allied occupation of Germany (post 1945). It's not clear when the black market deal had happened, but it could have been in 1946 when Simon was 25. He's been on the run for seven years at the time of his meeting with Petronius. See: Witch World
3. Koris is mentioned as being 'a boy who had only recently come into manhood' when Simon first meets him.
4. She seems to be about the same age as Koris.
5. Jaelithe follows Simon into another world. Time there passes much more slowly than in the Witch World so that several years are only a few days. See: Sorceress of the Witch World
6. When Simon and Jaelithe return to the Witch World they do not age to what they would be if they had not left. See: Sorceress of the Witch World
7. Kyllan is born at the last day of the year and thus, technically, a year older than Kemoc and Kaththea. For sake of simplicity they are listed as the same age in the table.
8. The ages of these two are a best guess.
9. Trevon should have been born this year but, due to the enchantment placed on Elys, he was not born until nine years later when Elys was freed.
10. in The Warding of Witch World it is mentioned that Trevon has rapidly aged to what his proper age would be if he'd been born in his proper year.
11. We really don't know much about Jenys's grandparents but she's about the same age as Elona and Keris and so included here.
