Was Andas an android—or the rightful Emperor, held prisoner on a distant planet while an android impersonated him on the Empire's throne world?
Was Tallhassee Mitford a modern archaeologist suffering from strange delusions, or has an ancient Egyptian artifact somehow hurled her personality far back in the mists of time to a Nubian kingdom where she is now a warrior princess named Ashake, caught up in a struggle between the gods of Egypt?
Two very different heroes caught in the grip of forces beyond control, beyond comprehension, both destined to be the only hope of doomed civilizations….

To Andre Norton---

Andre, you proved long ago that being a giant has nothing to do with physical stature. You’ve been taking giant steps and teaching the art of storytelling for over half a century, and we are among those – those many – who have been privileged to be your students.

It’s time we told the teacher thank you. --- David Weber and Eric Flint

Write-up from a fan ~

Android At Arms ~ Imagine waking up day after day in a bare prison cell knowing only your name and having only vague memories of your past. That's where we meet Andas Kastor. One day the power goes out and the cell door is ajar. He goes exploring and meets several other inmates all of different species and planets. Where are they? Who put them there and why? All are important where they come from and are starting to regain some memories. They plan and execute and escape, but one member of the group will betray them. They finally get to Andas's (revealed as Imperial Prince Andas) home world, he encounters an older version of himself ruling as Emperor. Each claim that that the other one is an android. Escaping the Emperor's forces Andas and his Salariki friend fall into an alternate world where evil forces rule and have almost destroyed the world. Andas promises a dying version of himself that he will try to save the world. Powerful evil sorcery verses old Imperial magic. A lot of betrayals, dangers, and monsters and talismans and mercenaries make for an exciting read. Is he an Android or not? Read it and make up your mind. Good book! ~ PG

Wraiths of Time ~ Archaeology, psychomestry, teleportation, Time travel, kidnapping, impersonation, psychic abilities, magical ancient talismen and alien attack and intrigue are just some of the ingredients on display in this thriller cooked up by the fertile mind of Andre Norton. Tallahassee Mitford (now how's that for a name?) was called in to authenticate some ancient relics which seem to affect Geiger counters although they are not radioactive. When she comes in contact with both articles, she is blasted back into the far distant past of the Ethiopian kingdom of Meroe. There she discovers that she has been transformed into Ashake a magnificent Warrior
Princess and shoved into a conflict with unearthly forces including Wraiths (spirits that only she can communicate with) with a double identity of Ashake/Tallassee, she must sort out just who she can trust before deciding any appropriate actions. A thriller indeed. ~ PG
